Same Heart. Bigger Vision. Rock'N Play Is Growing!
Introducing Rock'N Play Early STEAM Academy!
If you've been around Rock'N Play for a while, you've probably noticed a few changes over the years. We've grown, expanded, learned a lot along the way, and continued finding ways to make our program better.
Well, we're making another change, and I'm pretty excited about this one!
Rock'N Play Preschool & Childcare is now Rock'N Play Early STEAM Academy!
Before anyone wonders—no, we're not getting rid of play, and we're definitely not turning preschool into elementary school!
We're simply giving our program a name that better represents what we've been doing all along.
And I want to share a little about why this change means so much to me.
It All Starts With WHY
When I opened Rock'N Play in 2019, it wasn't because I had some grand plan to build a childcare business.
I was a mom who understood the importance of finding quality care for my child, and I was an educator who knew just how much learning happens in those first few years of life.
I wanted to create a place where I would feel good leaving my own children. A place where kids could be kids, where families felt welcome, and where learning happened naturally throughout the day.
Because here's something I've always believed:
Early childhood education is not just about preparing children for kindergarten. It's about helping them build the skills they'll use for the rest of their lives.
Think about it.
When a toddler learns to wait for a turn, they're learning patience.
When a preschooler works through a disagreement with a friend, they're developing communication and problem-solving skills.
When a child builds a tower that falls over five times before finally standing, they're learning persistence.
And when a child feels safe enough to ask questions, try something new, or make a mistake, they're building confidence.
Those are BIG things happening in little moments.
That's my why.
I don't want Rock'N Play to be just somewhere children go while their parents work. I want it to be a place where children are encouraged, challenged, supported, and excited to learn.
So HOW Do We Do That?
Through something children already know how to do really well.
PLAY!
I think sometimes we get so focused on preparing children for what's next that we forget how much they learn simply by being children.
They need to move, explore, get messy, ask questions, experiment, make mistakes, and try again.
That's where STEAM comes in.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
Now, before you picture a classroom full of toddlers doing science worksheets, that's not what we're talking about!
STEAM in early childhood looks like:
Building a bear den and figuring out how to keep it from falling over.
Mixing colors and discovering what happens when they combine.
Exploring what makes ice melt and why.
Using little fingers to pick up, sort, and manipulate materials while developing the fine motor skills needed for writing.
Counting, comparing, measuring, and finding patterns through everyday activities.
Asking questions, making predictions, and discovering that there isn't always just one way to solve a problem.
And sometimes? It looks like a big mess!
But there's a purpose behind that mess.
Our teachers aren't simply putting activities in front of children to keep them busy. We're observing, asking questions, encouraging exploration, and connecting those experiences to children's development.
We also know that academics are only one piece of the puzzle.
Learning to manage emotions, follow directions, communicate needs, build friendships, and become independent are just as important.
I want children leaving Rock'N Play not only knowing more, but believing they are capable of doing more.
That's what intentional early childhood education looks like to me.
So WHAT Is Changing?
Our name!
Rock'N Play Early STEAM Academy.
That's it. We're not suddenly becoming something completely different.
We're putting a name to the educational approach and philosophy that have been part of Rock'N Play for years.
We will continue offering childcare and early learning opportunities for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children.
We'll continue incorporating hands-on learning, STEAM activities, social-emotional development, outdoor exploration, and plenty of play.
We'll continue working to create an environment where children feel safe, supported, and valued.
And yes, there will still be messy projects, silly songs, laughter, and days when the classroom looks like a tornado came through after a really good activity!
Because play isn't separate from learning. Play IS how young children learn.
The name Early STEAM Academy simply helps us communicate that there is so much more happening inside our classrooms than people might realize.
Looking Back and Moving Forward
When I think about where Rock'N Play started in 2019 and where we are today, I'm proud of how far we've come.
Has it always been easy? Absolutely not.
Owning a childcare business comes with challenges that most people never see. We've had growing pains, made changes, learned from mistakes, and had to figure things out along the way.
But one thing hasn't changed.
I believe in what we do.
I believe early childhood educators make a difference.
I believe the relationships children build in their early years matter.
And I believe the work happening inside childcare classrooms deserves to be recognized for what it really is—education.
This name change is about continuing to grow, raising the bar for ourselves, and making sure our program reflects those beliefs.
To the families who have been part of Rock'N Play over the years, thank you for trusting us with your children and being part of our journey.
And to the families who are just getting to know us, I hope you'll come see what we're all about.
We're still Rock'N Play. We still believe childhood should be full of play, exploration, and discovery.
We just have a name that better tells our story.
Welcome to Rock'N Play Early STEAM Academy!
Same heart. Bigger vision. And lots more learning, growing, and probably a little glitter along the way!
